    Why hold a conference?

_Regional IIE conferences are held for several reasons:
    • Provide a forum for the presentation of student papers reflecting undergraduate research and industry-based projects.
    • Stimulate research and creative thinking through team competitions.
    • Promote leadership, communication and organizational skills.
    • Develop networking skills and contacts.
    • Strengthen communication among chapters within the region and with IIE.

    This Year's Conference

This year's Western Region IIE Conference will take place in Corvallis Oregon, on the Oregon State University Campus.

The conference will be an opportunity for about 150 students from all over the western United States to build essential skill and knowledge.  Friday will begin with several tours of local facilities to expand each student’s working knowledge of industrial engineering principles by showing them real world industrial engineering applications.  The tours will also serve to expose some students to new industries they may not have been familiar with.  Friday will also be concluded with student research paper competitions.  This competition will foster the communication skills of students presenting their papers and expose all students to various areas of research; helping to form well informed, articulate students to lead research and industry in the very near future.

Saturday will further expose the students to new ideas with a series of speakers with backgrounds ranging from industry to academia.  Team competitions will be used to create a team-based environment to stimulate critical and creative thinking to solve a series of problems presented to each team.  Saturday evening will also include networking events to allow students to practice 1 on 1 networking and interviewing skills with industry professionals.  Throughout the entire conference students will be building strong connections with other students from the 14 universities across 13 states.  This conference will give students the tools they need to form the future of industrial engineering and make major contributions to industry.
